Does Spa Balancer Affect the Filtration Performance of the EGO3?

In general, the EGO3 filter always delivers maximum performance, regardless of the type of disinfection used. However, some products – including Spa Balancer – can generally shorten the service life of hot tub filters.

Spa Balancer binds the finest dirt particles into larger clumps so that they can also be filtered by standard cartridge filters (approx. 40–50 microns). This causes filter pores to clog more quickly. With the EGO3, this is much less of a problem – thanks to its enormous filter surface and unique 3D filter structure.

What’s more, Spa Balancer isn’t necessary for clear water with the EGO3: The EGO3 is the only filter in the world equipped with Zero Dirt Technology, filtering out particles as small as 1 micron.

My Water Has Become Cloudy Since I Started Using EGO3 Filters – Why?

This isn’t a fault with the EGO3 – quite the opposite. Here’s what happens:

1. Over time, Spa Balancer causes a slimy buildup in the hot tub pipes.
2. The EGO3 significantly increases water flow (lower flow resistance = longer circulation pump service life).
3. This increased flow loosens the accumulated dirt from the pipes – the water temporarily appears cloudy.
4. After a few days to several weeks (depending on the level of contamination), the dirt has been completely filtered out – the water becomes crystal clear.

If you temporarily switch back to the old filter, the water will become clear again immediately – but only because the old filter leaves the dirt in the pipes. The pipes remain heavily contaminated and chemical consumption increases.

Our tip: Simply let it run – even if the water initially becomes cloudy. Your hot tub and your health will thank you.
